Internet: A Devil in the form of God

Praising and cursing the almighty has always been one of the favorite time pass of the human species, especially the Indians. As a legacy which we got from our ancestors we don't forget to remember his name in all our day to day endeavors. No matter how simple or how complicated the task is, we always knock at his door first, before getting down on that job. While standing in a queue to catch a bus or a metro, before appearing for a competitive exam, when going for the maiden date, at all occasions we bother him. Even the childhood stories always stressed, on his different forms and his supreme power over the evil.

But as we entered into the 20th century we came to know about one more form of god. Apart from ubiquitous and omniscient like every other god, this one didn't belong to any particular caste or religion. He was above all boundaries and the best part was that people didn't have to visit temples, mosques or churches anymore. He was accessible at all places. Yes! We are talking about the Internet. Flowing through the large fiber cables running under the sea, it came straight into our lives and changed our way of life.

Suddenly for all our wishes and problems, internet was the solution. Standing in long queues for booking a railway ticket or for getting an application form was a thing of the past. From lucrative travel plans to better jobs, now everything was just a click away. Information about latest happenings in the world, views and reviews for everything from books, movies medicines to latest technology was easily accessible. Networking sites like Orkut and Facebook literally brought people sitting in different continents on to a common platform, where people really enjoyed talking and sharing snaps with their contemporaries around the world. Life had never been such comfortable. It had really transformed our way of life.

But, during this phase of transformation, where everyone enjoyed and appreciated, the role being played by the internet in making their lives more comfortable. We all were so blinded that knowingly or unknowingly we simply didn't realized that, it was actually a devil hidden in the form of god. It was not just making our lives comfortable but it actually was leading us to state where we will have no identity of our own. It actually was eating away our ingenuity and was making us paralyzed, day by day. It had eliminated the most important element required to grow as an individual, the ‘Struggle'. Project reports and presentations readily available on the internet actually made the students to switch from carrying out experiments in real, to copying the data from internet and pass their exams. Even business analysts reverted to CTRL-C and CTRL-V way rather than carrying out real market surveys and analysing the results themselves to arrive at a strategic road map for the companies. People suddenly stopped churning their brains which eventually was the only reason why we were the only species to have flourished so well that we could develop societies and live together. How can one be aware of his limitations unless one struggles in life? And there is nothing more dangerous than being unaware of self limitations, because then one treats himself capable of everything and starts venturing into events which are actually not meant for that individual.

Besides paralyzing our rationalizing abilities, it also affected our emotional and physical quotients adversely. People stopped playing outdoor sports which was once a medium of recreation and switched to surfing, browsing and chatting on the internet. Surveys conducted worldwide have clearly reflected the adverse effects of this sudden change in the behavior. Heart attacks, back pains, indigestion and other health problems which once attributed to the old age, are now haunting the younger generation. Although, the internet has brought the world on a common platform, but on the contrary, it has divided the human society. People feel more comfortable chatting to persons across the globe with some fake identities rather than sharing a few words of concern and appreciation with their friends and close ones. People don't meet anymore to discuss over an area of concern, they chat over the internet and then forget. As a result the whole emotional touch which used to drive the things in the past has vanished. We all have become machines in our approach and understand feelings written in the form of text only. Grievances which we used to judge by reading the expressions on the faces of the people are a thing of the past. We don't have time to show sympathy for a fellow worker unless he writes it down and sends across to us through a blog or mail.

It is high time to realize that, whom we are worshipping for transforming our lives is actually taking away the essence of life from us. Its actually a devil hidden in the form of god, who is not making our lives comfortable but is leading us to a stage where we would have no identity of our own. It's time to start thinking.
